Assalamualaikum all,
Hye readers! Most of my friends are already working, and some of them cant find a suitable job yet. So, today i would like to share an improtant tips, maybe for some people who didn't know that resume is our FACE in interview. Yes! personalities during interview is important but resume is 50 percent more important than that :-) Why? It is the first material received for interviewer and it also like a diary or good story teller for us! Most of the time, job seeker ignore the most important piece during a job hunt: the resume. Many jobseekers would write the resume based on "as-a-matter-of-fact"; or "it's just a procedure"; manner. The truth is, the effort you spend in producing a powerful resume will turn out a surprise to you: a higher salary, a better working environment, a higher position etc.
Here I will list just 5 tips to produce a powerful resume effortlessly. All of you just need a half and hour to finish it :-)
STEP 1: YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENT, NOT YOUR JOB DESCRIPTION
Many job seekers like to start their experience with "Responsibilities include..". This is a job description which you probably copy - paste from your employment contract, and it is not your responsibilities or accomplishments. Always start with action words like "Responsible for....", "Conducted training to.....". "In charge of..." etc.
STEP 2 : QUANTIFY, QUANTIFY..
When writing your accomplishments, quantify it with values like "increase production yield by 30% for year 2006..", "Close RM500 sales of...", "Doubling the numbers of clients for.." In a way, you are making employers work easier - to justify you during the hiring meeting, in another you are proving your qualities to employers with physical values and results. Believe me, among those tiny words, the "%". the "123456" numbers stand out more as what you will see in this paragraph.
STEP 3: NO LENGTHY STORY
Writing a resume is not about telling your life stories. Precise is the key word. For fresh graduates, relating your industrial training accomplishment is important. Probably two or three extra co - curricular activities would be sufficient. More than 50% of fresh graduates resume has a long list of co - curricular activities but none of them describe their accomplishment of those activities. Employers can't judge your strength by just looking at "Members of Chess Clubs" or so on. For job seekers who probably changed more than 5 jobs, I would suggest you to cut those less important and not related job experience short so that employers can focus more on your related experience.
STEP 4: ANSWERING TO THE JOB ADVERTISEMENT
Design your resume to fit the job you applied for. Job advertisement usually will state a few requirements such as working under pressure. team work, or self motivated and if you have those qualities, be sure to write it in your resume. Relate experience in your job that you have gone through periods of extreme pressure and how you dealt with it such as "Completed 3 projects concurrently within 2 months.."
STEP 5: Funky emails, grammar mistakes or spelling errors are NO NO
Most jobseekers are well aware about this. But still employers are receiving resumes with not just one but multiple spelling and grammar mistakes. Spell checker is not reliable enough. Get someone to proofread your resumes. Another important note, your email address should be professional. Email address like "hotchics.." "robotman.." gives certain bad impression to the employers. Email are free to register:so get an email with a more decent name.
Lastly, the most important ingredient to a good resume is PASSION. Whether in your career objectives or in your summary of qualifications or your cover letter, make sure you show your extreme passion to the job you are applying for. Good Luck peeps!! :-)
